Fall Branch Falls, Northrup Falls

Fall Branch Falls
Northrup Falls

We travelled from Williamsburg KY after our second trip to Cumberland Falls, Fall Branch Falls – which is located along the John Litton Farm Loop Trail in the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area. Fall Branch Falls is a modest fall, but it was a nice hike, even in the rain.

We then drove to Allardt TN and in the Colditz Cove State Natural Area took a short hike – they say 1.3 miles – to Northrup Falls. This waterfall and the area around it was a surprise. We met only one other hiker so we had the place completely to ourselves at the falls. The hike was pretty easy except for a few rocky steep areas near the base of the falls.

Cumberland Falls, Eagle Falls, Yahoo Falls

AKA “Niagra Falls of the South” – this is reputedly one of the few waterfalls in the world that has moonbows – a rainbow from moonlight.

Debbie searched for waterfalls in Kentucky and we found these three which we could visit in a single day. We are returning to Cumberland falls in a week when there will be a near-full moon to see if we can witness the moonbows there.
