Very pretty falls located in the Denny Cove area near Sequatchie, Tennessee.
Month: January 2021
Today we hiked around the Grundy Forest Day Loop and went just a short way down the Fiery Gizzard Trail’s north end. A good part of the trail was lots of roots and/or rocky, even though we hiked less than 4 miles, it was a pretty good workout.
Suter Falls & Laurel Falls
We went to hike to Suter Falls and Horsepound Falls in the Savage Gulf State Natural Area. Cold morning near freezing and some snow, less than 1 inch, on the ground. The hiking was slippery due to the snow in areas – see below – and when we found we did not want to risk the larger amounts of ice on the trail to Horsepound Falls, we decided to head back and checked out Laurel Falls which was a short half hour drive.
Cherokee Falls & Hemlock Falls
Both of these falls are located in Cloudland Canyon State Park, in the far NW corner of Georgia. We hiked little more than a mile total to see both falls, most of it steep up or down.
We saw a lot of falls this day, and missed almost as many as we saw (see below). We will have to return to see more falls in this area.
Laurel Falls
Our first waterfalls of 2021, Laurel Falls (near Dayton TN) was about a 6 mile in/out hike along Richland Creek, then up Laurel Creek to the Falls.
